ILTA Hosts First CBC Reception

On September 23, ILTA hosted its first reception in honor of Congressional Black Caucus Week at the association’s Washington, DC headquarters. Attendees included representatives from Congressman Troy Carter’s (D-LA-7) and Governor J.B. Pritzker’s (D-IL) offices, along with administration officials and government affairs professionals across many industries.

Why It Matters

At the reception, ILTA highlighted issues critical to terminal operations, including PFAS regulation and drone security. These conversations with policymakers and industry leaders help advance practical solutions that protect communities while supporting safe, efficient operations. You can check out photos from the event on our LinkedIn page.

ILTA Meets with OMB Over Drone Policy

On September 19, ILTA and ILTA Security Subcommittee co-chairs Ronnie Odom of Ergon Inc. and Jimmy Wooten of Murphy USA met with officials from the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) regarding a coming rule on securing airspace from private drone usage around critical infrastructure sites like terminals.

The half-hour meeting provided an opportunity to give direct input on a core security topic for the industry ahead of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) publishing its rule, likely in the next one to two months. OMB will take the association’s feedback in assessing the draft rule it currently has and will encourage FAA to make changes where needed.

Why It Matters

Bulk liquid terminals are critical links in the nation’s supply chain, making them attractive targets for unauthorized drone activity. While drones can improve safety and efficiency, they also create serious security risks—from surveillance and corporate espionage to potential attacks. Recent incidents involving drones at other infrastructure sites highlight the urgency of clear federal rules to safeguard terminals, workers, and surrounding communities.

As a follow-up, ILTA will organize a working group to develop comments on the proposed rule when it is released. If you have any questions, please reach out to James Privette, Senior Manager of Government Affairs, at jprivette@ilta.org.
