ILTA Holds First Meeting with New Working Group on Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) Cybersecurity Rule

The US Coast Guard ratified the MTSA Cyber regulations in January 2025 to establish minimum cybersecurity requirements for U.S.-flagged vessels, waterfront facilities, and Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) facilities. The intent is to safeguard and enhance the security and resilience of the Marine Transportation System (MTS).

In response, ILTA’s Security Subcommittee established a dedicated working group to support members in navigating the new MTSA cyber regulations. The group will meet regularly to share information, coordinate on compliance strategies, and help ensure members can meet these new obligations efficiently and cost-effectively.

Lee Scott of Odfjell Terminals USA led the first meeting, outlining a path forward for the working group. The group’s goals include identifying and prioritizing challenges, collaborating on solutions, sharing knowledge, and learning how to better meet new MTSA cyber obligations.

If you are interested in joining the MTSA working group, please email Christopher Meilink at cmeilink@ilta.org.
